So now your all dreaded up, here some stuff you should probaly know.....

First Wash

You want to try and leave it a week to two weeks before your first wash your dreads, if your hair gets greesey before this time then do not hesitate to wash them, Greese to dreads is what cryptonite is to superman! If you can hold out a week or so though without becomign a greese ball, this gives your dreads a good chance to settle before you put them through the traumatic first wash. We strongly reccomend the use of any of our Liquid Dreadlock shampoos for the first few months, this allows you to wash you dreads without having to be to rough with them so you dont loosen up all that delicate fresh dreadage.

So when you have decided that the time for your dreads first wash is upon you, grab a pair of tights and put it on your head with all your dreads danglng down one the legs, yes we know you look like a fool but this is crucial; just think of the baby dreads! So once you have your tights on your head get under the shower and get the tights and the underlying dreads all wet! Grab your choosen liquid soap apply it to your hands and start gently applying it to your dreads through the tights, rinse lather and repeat - after two weeks of no washing those dreads are probably going to be pretty filthy so the repeat part it quite important.

Make sure your properly wash all of the soap out of your dreads, you really dont want to leave any in there to hinder the dreading process. Once your certain that all the soap is out remove the tights and ring those dreads out like sponges trying your hardest to ensure all excess water is out. Now its time to grab a towel and wrap your dreads up in it, yes boys you may feel like a big girl but it needs to be done! Leave this towel on for fifteen minutes and then take it off to either air or blow dry your dreads.

If your wanting to perfom maintence now you want to make sure that your hair is properly dried out before you start otherwise you really are just wasting time. Wet hair=no friction=no dreadage.

Big No's No's for new dreads....

Do not dye your dreads untill they are fully matured
Dye your dreads prior to dreading up and then again once matured, do not dye semi mature dreads as nine times out of ten this will hinder and not help your baby dreads.

Do Not Go In Cholrine Filled Pools
Once fully developed chrlorine makes no difference at all to dreads. You dont have to avoid pools for the first year though, just the first few weeks when your dreads are still soft and delicate. At any point in your dreads lifes if they do go into puplic pools make sure you clean them good and proper afterward.

Do Not Put Household Products In Your Dreads
A good dreadlock wax does not cost much and used sparingly will last a long time, we have heard some true horror stories of clients putting everything from penut butter to tooth paste in their hair, this smells nasty, looks gross and gives dreads a rep that they really dont deserve.

Do Not Eat Your Dreadlock Wax
iIt may smell nice but it will mess up your insides if ingested, so dont do it!

Do use your common sense
And you wont go far wrong.
